OUR MISSION STATEMENT

The Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc. recognizes that all people desire to have a right to live in dignity within the limits of their capabilities and to be responsible for their own welfare and destiny.  The basic purpose of the Special Needs Center is to make this possible, working in cooperation with others.
The Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc. believes therefore, that all persons are entitled to the services and supports needed for maximum development of their potential as accepted and contributing members of society. Because the challenges of people with disabilities are shared by and contribute to those supporting them, all programs and services must reflect this.

OUR CODE OF ETHICS

We, as Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc. professionals (staff and board members), dedicate ourselves to carrying out the mission of this organization. Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc.’s mission can only be realized through a common code of ethics upheld by our officers, board of directors, and staff. To this end, we will do the following:

1. Recognize that the chief function of Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc. at all times is to serve the best interests of our constituency.

2. Accept as a personal duty the responsibility to keep up-to-date on emerging issues and to conduct ourselves with professional competence, impartiality, efficiency, and effectiveness.

3. Respect the structure and responsibilities of the board, provide them with facts and advice as a basis for their making policy decisions, and uphold and implement policies adopted by the board.

4. Keep the communities informed about issues affecting it.

5. Conduct our organizational and operational duties with positive leadership exemplified by open communication, creativity, dedication, and compassion.

6. Exercise whatever discretionary authority we have under the law to carry out the mission of the organization.

7. Serve with respect, concern, courtesy, and responsiveness in carrying out the organization’s mission.

8. Demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, honesty, and fortitude in all our activities in order to inspire confidence and trust in our activities.

9. Avoid any interest or activity that is in conflict with the conduct of our official duties.

10. Respect and protect privileged information to which we have access in the course of our official duties.

11. Strive for personal and professional excellence and encourage the professional developments of others.

12. Always treat others with respect and to respect the opinions of and the differences among individuals.

13. Expect fairness to be evident in our actions internally and externally and to be equitable in our decisions and mindful of their impact on other groups and people.

Therefore we will demonstrate courage in our decisions and dedication to Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc.’s values and beliefs.
