ComPASS Building Project
Monday, November 19, 2007

In November 2005, the Board of Directors and Staff of Mifflin-Juniata Special Needs Center, Inc. (MJ- SNC) held a strategic planning retreat to establish & prioritize goals for the future. During the retreat the dream of building/renovating a new multipurpose facility to accomodate future growth first emerged.  For the past year MJ-SNC has diligently been working to make this dream a reality.

Board member Art Wirrick was the first to introduce the idea of a site location in downtown Lewistown at the corner of Dorcas and Montgomery Avenue. Building & grounds chairperson, Randy Harshbarger, quickly jumped on this thought and facilitated discussions with the property owners.

Since the Fall of 2006, this dream has blossomed into a collaborative project with a number of local non-profit corporations. The facility will be known as ComPASS (Community Partners Allied Service System) to demonstrate the collaborative effort. As the owner of the new facility, MJSNC is projected to lease space to The Abuse Network, the Juniata Valley Tri-County Drug & Alcohol Abuse Commission and the Tuscarora Intermediate Unit allowing all agencies to benefit from shared space, utilities and common resources which this project will provide.

Updates will be posted as this exciting new venture unfolds. Watch here for further details!
